    Altera (San Jose, Calif.) said all Cyclone II FPGAs are shipping today as production-qualified devices and are available for volume shipments from distributors worldwide. Altera said it rolled the entire Cyclone II family out in less than seven months.

    Altera Corporation (Nasdaq: ALTR - News) launched the Stratix® II GX family, its third generation of FPGAs with embedded serial transceivers. Designed to deliver superior signal integrity, Stratix II GX FPGAs offer a complete programmable solution for the growing number of applications and protocols requiring high-speed serial transceivers. Stratix II GX FPGAs combine the industry's fastest and highest-density FPGA fabric with up to 20 low-power transceivers that operate between 622 Mbps to 6.375 Gbps to meet the requirements of high-speed designs of today and tomorrow.
  • Altera and Wi-LAN Form Partnership to Offer First Programmable WiMAX BTS Modem Solution
    Altera Corporation (Nasdaq: ALTR) and Wi-LAN Inc. (TSX: WIN) announced the formation of a partnership to deliver the first programmable, low-cost WiMAX-compliant base transceiver station (BTS) modem solution supporting the IEEE 802.16-2004 standard. The solution allows base station developers to deliver WiMAX-compliant products that can be upgraded in the field by service providers in response to changing customer requirements and market conditions. The programmability of Altera's FPGAs, which form an integral part of the solution, also provides developers with the flexibility to rapidly make changes to their design and still meet their time to market goals.

  • Altera Qualifies MAX II CPLD Family for Extended Temperature Range
    Altera Corporation (ALTR) announced the successful qualification of the MAX(R) II CPLD family for use in extended temperature range applications. Altera qualified the MAX II CPLD family to operate at a junction temperature of -40 degrees C to +125 degrees C. This addition to Altera's extended temperature device portfolio offers designers a low-cost, flexible solution for automotive telematics, infotainment and driver assistance systems, as well as temperature-sensitive military and industrial applications.
  • uClinux cross-tools support C++ apps on Nios II soft-core CPU
    Microtronix is shipping a uClinux cross-development toolkit for the Nios II soft-core processor that can be implemented in Altera FPGAs (field-programmable gate arrays). The Nios II Linux Development Kit lets developers write or port applications to the FPGA using standard Linux or Windows (Cygwin) hosts and standard development tools -- including C++ tools.

    Altera Corporation announced that its low-cost Cyclone(R) II FPGA family is now available in extended temperature range. The extended temperature range allows Cyclone II FPGAs to operate at a junction temperature of -40 degrees C to +125 degrees C to provide increased flexibility, time-to-market and low-cost advantages for designers of industrial, military and automotive electronics systems.

    Altera announced the Nios(R) II C-to-Hardware Acceleration (C2H) Compiler, a new productivity tool for developers of Nios II-based systems that substantially increases the performance of their embedded software. As the number of embedded designs using FPGAs increases, the availability of the Nios II C2H Compiler is targeted at providing developers of embedded systems with the tools they need to be productive and successful. As part of the Nios II C2H Compiler offering, Altera is also providing third-party tools vendors with access to its system- level infrastructure, including the Quartus(R) II SOPC Builder tool, to foster development of a wide range of Electronic System Level (ESL) design tools.

Both companies have been in close cooperation to ensure Precision® Synthesis support for the full range of Cyclone III devices. Beta support for the new family is currently available in Precision Synthesis, with production support scheduled for release in April.
