  • Atmel Announces 0.18um RF CMOS Foundry Process for Low Volume Applications
    Atmel(R) Corporation (Nasdaq: ATML), announced its 0.18 micron AT58900 RF CMOS process technology for ASIC foundry customers whose products require high speed, low power RF devices, such as those used in WLAN, WiMAX and ZigBee applications. This new process is manufactured on 200mm wafers and features 1.8V CMOS transistors and a vast array of passive components that include low tolerance analog poly resistors, N+ and P+ S/D resistors, and up to four metal layers. RF pads are included to help minimize interface impedance.

    solutions, announced the availability of a new Silicon Germanium (SiGe) based front-end IC, ATR0981.   • Atmel Introduces 14- & 16-Pin Low Power Single Cycle Core 8051 Microcontrollers

  • Atmel Introduces a $69 Linux Based 32-bit AVR Networking Processor Kit
    Atmel(R) Corporation (Nasdaq: ATML), introduced a low-cost AVR(R)32 Network Gateway design kit based on its 32-bit AT32AP7000 application processor. The AVR32 32-bit architecture, introduced in 2006, is optimized to achieve more processing per MHz and is especially suited for compute intensive algorithms. The kit includes a PCB with the AT32AP7000 application processor and a full port of royalty-free peripheral drivers, protocol stacks, and communications applications. The Network Gateway kit demonstrates the ability of the AVR32 and its embedded Linux(R) kernel to handle high-speed serial communications including bridging between interfaces that run incompatible serial protocols. Examples include routing and filtering of traffic between two TCP/IP networks as well as routing and filtering of data between TCP/IP, USB and SD cards.

  • Atmel Introduces the World's Lowest Power 32-bit Flash MCU With Ethernet and USB On-the-Go
    Atmel(R) Corporation (Nasdaq:ATML) announced the industry's lowest power 32-bit Flash microcontrollers. Based on Atmel's AVR(R)32 UC core, the UC3A Series has 512K bytes Flash and feature an embedded 10/100 Ethernet MAC, a full-speed (12 Mbps) USB 2.0 with on-the-go (OTG) capability and an RAM/SDRAM external bus interface. The AT32UC3A0512 and AT32UC3A1512, the first devices available, deliver 80 Dhrystone MIPS (DMIPS) at 66 MHz and consume only 40 mA at 3.3V. The power consumption, as low as 1.65 mW/DMIPS, outperforms other architectures with similar features by a ratio of up to 4X. The new MCUs target networking and PC-centric embedded applications and are especially suited for portable devices.
