Silicon Laboratories Introduces Complete 8-Bit MCU Evaluation Tool in a USB Stick; ToolStick Demonstrates Easy-to-Use MCU Development Tools
Silicon Laboratories Inc. (Nasdaq:SLAB), a leader in high-performance, analog-intensive, mixed-signal ICs, announced the ToolStick, an intuitive, low cost way for designers to quickly and completely evaluate Silicon Laboratories' 8-bit MCU development tools. The ToolStick evaluation platform is a fully contained evaluation system in a USB stick. Through only a PC with a USB port, designers can fully experience the Silicon Laboratories software development environment in conjunction with the on-chip debugging hardware that allows full, non-intrusive access to the C8051F mixed-signal MCUs' CPU, peripherals and memory. The software development environment consists of the easy-to-use Integrated Development Environment (IDE), editor, debugger, Flash programmer as well as an evaluation copy of the Keil compiler.

Based on Silicon Laboratories' industry-leading Si4701 FM tuner and C8051F321 USB microcontroller (MCU), the reference board plugs into any Windows PC supporting USB connectivity and plays high-quality FM broadcast audio through the PC speakers. The USB FM reference design contains the Windows-based FM tuner application, complete source code and engineering documentation enabling customers to quickly demonstrate, evaluate and produce devices with USB connectivity and high-quality FM radio reception.
