  • UWB Market Matures With Multiple Vendor Interoperability
Leading UWB silicon providers Alereon, Staccato Communications and Wisair today announced their initial attempts at interoperability were successful.
  • Staccato raises $18 million, demos wireless USB
Ultra wideband chip specialist Staccato Communications has closed a Series C funding round that raised $18 million. The investment, which came from existing, long-term investors, was co-led by Intel Capital's Digital Home Fund and Vision Capital, with participation from Allegis Capital, Bay Partners, Charles River Ventures and Interwest Partners. The total invested in the company has now grown to $48 million.
  • Staccato Communications Announces Certified Wireless USB/Bluetooth Convergence Roadmap
Staccato Communications, an Ultra-Wideband (UWB) wireless technology pioneer and Certified Wireless USB leader, announced its full support for the Bluetooth Special Interest Group's (SIG) selection of WiMedia UWB as its platform for next generation Bluetooth technology. Staccato also announced its three-step product roadmap for the convergence of Certified Wireless USB, WiMedia WiNet (Internet Protocol) and Bluetooth/Bluetooth-over-UWB technologies.
  • Staccato Communications Demonstrates Product Maturity at Certified Wireless USB Developers Conference
Staccato Communications Participates in Nine Demonstrations Based on Certified Wireless USB at the Certified Wireless USB Developers Conference, Taiwan.
  • Staccato and SMSC collaborate to develop joint reference designs for certified wireless USB market
Staccato Communications and SMSC have announced a joint effort to deliver two reference designs for the Certified Wireless USB market. This partnership demonstrates the interoperability of SMSC's high-performance USB hub products, including the recently announced SMSC USB MultiSwitch Hub (USB2524), with Staccato's single-chip all-CMOS Ripcord Wireless USB Device Wire Adapter solution. The two companies are developing reference designs that will offer full turn-key, pre-certified design kits including hardware, software, design files and documentation.
  • Staccato Communications Achieves Industry-First Milestones with Reference Designs, Based on Certified Wireless USB, for Mobile Handsets, PDAs and PC Notebooks
Staccato Communications, an Ultra Wideband (UWB) wireless technology pioneer and Certified Wireless USB leader, announced the delivery of the industry’s first-available Half Mini Card and Secure Digital I/O (SDIO) reference designs, based on Certified Wireless USB. The complete, production-ready reference
designs feature firmware and drivers, and target mobile handset, PDA and PC notebook applications. These reference design kits accelerate development and time-to-market for products aimed at the Half Mini Card notebook PC space and embedded products with an SDIO interface.
  • Wireless USB nears last hurdle before launch of consumer products
Almost three years after it debuted at the Intel Developer Forum (IDF), wireless USB remains one of the most promising implementations of ultra wideband (UWB) short-range radio technology, but it is still waiting for its day to hit the market. That day was expected to come in 2006, and the industry was ready, according to Intel technology strategist Jeff Ravencraft, who is also chairman and president of the USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF). He even cited Citigroup as predicting that 17 million wireless USB devices could be sold this year, but the reality was far from that optimistic outlook.
