VMETRO announces the availability of the CAML-MOD3 a CameraLink adaptor module for VMETRO's high performance Xilinx Virtex II Pro based PMC-FPGA03 PMC module. Capable of capturing video from two base-mode cameras or one Base, Medium or Full mode camera, the CAML-MOD3/PMC-FPGA03 combination opens up a new range of performance options for developers by merging data acquisition with the benefits of a local user programmable FPGA. Xilinx and Wavesat Collaborate in Development of World's First Mini-PCI Reference Design for WiMAX
Xilinx, Inc. (Nasdaq: XLNX) announced that Wavesat Inc., a fabless semiconductor developer of broadband wireless chips, has chosen the Xilinx Spartan(TM)-3E field programmable gate array (FPGA) as a key component of the world's first mini-PCI reference design for WiMAX Customer Premises Equipment (CPE) and User Terminal applications. The high-performance features of the Spartan-3E FPGA are used to implement key functionality including a time-critical low-level Media Access Controller (MAC) block and PCI interface. With the IEEE802-16-2004 compliant WiMAX mini-PCI reference design, engineers can drastically accelerate time-to-market of emerging WiMAX equipment. Wavesat will showcase the solution at this week's WiMAX World in Boston, October 26-28, booth #308.

High-Performance Platform from National Semiconductor and Xilinx Accelerates Design of Gigahertz-Speed Data Acquisition Systems
National Semiconductor Corporation (NYSE: NSM) and Xilinx Inc. (Nasdaq: XLNX) introduced an integrated development platform that accelerates the design of complex, gigahertz-speed communications and test and measurement systems. The platform includes the world's highest-performance Xilinx Virtex(TM)-4 FPGA, which is optimized for reduced power and superior signal integrity, and the ADC08D1500, National Semiconductor's best-in-class, low-power, 3 giga-sample per second (GSPS) analog-to-digital converter (ADC). The board also is available with any of the other converters from National's gigahertz-speed ADC family.

Xilinx Demonstrates Industry's First Programmable ExpressCard Solution
At the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), Xilinx Inc. (Nasdaq: XLNX), will demonstrate the industry's first programmable ExpressCard application, comprised of the Philips PX1011A PCI Express PHY and PDD 2016 DVB-T module, a Xilinx(R) Spartan-3E(TM) FPGA, and an optimized Xilinx PCI Express LogiCORE IP core. The solution is ideally suited to meet the PCMCIA performance and power requirements for the ExpressCard module specification.

Xilinx Announces 8.1i Release of WebPACK - Industry's Only Free Fully Featured Design Suite
Xilinx, Inc. (Nasdaq: XLNX - News) announced the immediate availability of ISE WebPACK(TM) 8.1i -- the latest version of the company's free* downloadable development system. The new version now includes all the features of ISE Foundation with full support for embedded, DSP and real-time debug design flows. Also featured in the 8.1i release is support for all members of the Spartan(TM)-3E family, the industry's lowest cost FPGA, and additional support for Virtex(TM)-4 FPGA devices. Xilinx is negotiating the purchase of EDA startup AccelChip Inc., a source close to the acquisition has told EDN. A Xilinx spokesperson said the company does not comment on rumors, but EDN's source told EDN that the acquisition is a done deal and that Xilinx paid $21 million for AccelChip, roughly $5 million more than the $16 million in funding AccelChip has raised to date.

Xilinx announced the version 8.1 of its PlanAhead software, a hierarchical design and analysis solution that along with Xilinx ISE software delivers a performance advantage for Xilinx Virtex-4 and Spartan-3 FPGAs. PlanAhead streamlines the step between synthesis and place-and-route to give designers more control and insight into how designs are implemented to achieve their target Fmax with fewer design iterations. The tool allows designers to utilize a hierarchical design methodology to minimize routing congestion, simplify clocking and interconnect complexity, and explore implementation options.

Xilinx Delivers Virtex-5 LX330T Device - World's Largest FPGA With Serial Transceivers
Xilinx, Inc. (Nasdaq: XLNX), announced delivery of the Virtex(TM)-5 LX330T device, the industry's largest FPGA with high-speed serial transceivers. The Virtex-5 LX330T device delivers both high performance and low power using an advanced power-saving 65nm process technology and ultra-fast ExpressFabric™ technology.
